Problem of the Week!

POW:

This is a 7th grade NECAP problem! Come on 8th graders you should have no trouble solving this one!

Travis has a photograph that is 4inches wide and 6 inches tall. Travis enlarges the photo proportionally so that it is 16 inches wide.
a. How tall is it?
b. Can he enlarge the photo proportionally to 8 inches by 10 inches? Explain...

    The photo is 24 inches tall because 16/4=4 and 6.4=24. That would make it 24 inches tall.

    Travis can't enlarge the photo to 8 by 10 inches because 8/4=2 and 10/4=2.5. 2 doesn't equal 2.5.

    a. the photo is 24 inches tall because the enlarged photo is 4 times as wide as the original so that means it has to be 4 times as tall and 6x4 =24

    b. travis cant enlarge the pic to 8 by 10 because 4 inches can go into 8 inches but 6 inches cant go into 10 inches
