PROBLEM OF THE WEEK:
Correct solution and work shown can earn you a free homework pass!
A large cereal box (rectangular prism) is 10 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 3 inches deep.
A regular cereal box has 1/2 the volume of the large box. What could the dimensions of the regular cereal box be?
Be sure to explain your thinking and try your best to show your work.
**Your comment may not appear at the bottom right away - I had them e-mailed to me, so no one can see the correct answer and work until Friday morning. I wanted to make it fair. **
All posts are due by Friday morning - start of school!
I will give you props on your progress report if you do it!
Good Luck and Have FUN!! -thanks to Mrs K from Hoxsie School in Warwick for this great idea! (you can blame her LOL!)
Mr. Alfred it's Oksana. On the bottom my work is shown and explained.:) This is * multipation sign.
ReplyDeleteMy Work!!!!!
Volume = length*width*height
Volume=3*10*12=360
360 divide 2= 180
180=3*5*12
My explanation!!!!!!!
If I divide length, width,height by 2 I get 48 as the volume. 48 does not equal 1/2 of 360 so what i did is i kept the height- 12 and the length-3 the same and divided the width of 10 by 2 and got 5 as an answer. then i did 5*3*12=180.
Hi Mr. Alfred, its Brooke
ReplyDeleteheres my work :
The first thing that i did was find the large cereal box's volume. The
dimensions were 10 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 3 inches deep. To find a
rectangular prism's volume you have to multiply length x width x height.
The volume for the large cereal box is 360. The regular box is one half of the
large box So, 180. The next thing i did was come up with 3 dimensions
length, height, and width that will have a product of 180 which would be the
volume. Three possible dimensions are 9 inches wide, 10 inches high, and 2 inches
deep.
also
18 inches wide, 2 inches high, and 5 inches deep.
:)
Congrats Oksana and Brooke!! You earn a free homework pass... Remember to use the homework pass when you need it, and it is not good on graded assignments like reflections!! See you Monday and keep up the good work! NA
ReplyDeletewidth(10) times height(12) times depth (3) =volume (360). volume/2= volume of small box(180)i thought up in my head now a couple different answers one is 5 times 3 times 12 for the small cereal box. 18 times 2 times five c ya Mr. Alfred
